  • Remove Personal Belongings: Before you bring your vehcile to the scrap yard, make sure to remove all personal items from inside the vehicle (e.g., papers, electronics, clothing, etc.).
  • Take Your License Plates: In many places, you’ll be able to transfer your license plates to another vehicle in your name through the DMV. Be sure to remove them and check your local regulations.
  • Proof of Ownership: You’ll need to prove that you own the vehicle. Typically, this is done with the title. If you don't have the title, we are unable to accept the vehicle.
  • Clear the Title: If the car is financed, leased, or has a lien, you must settle any outstanding payments with the financial institution before you can junk it. Make sure the title is clear before you proceed.

Schedule a Drop-off or Towing

Towing Service: If your car is not drivable, Auto & Scrap Recyclers can provide towing. Check our Service Map for available counties in Southeast Wisconsin. We will schedule a convenient time to pick up the vehicle from your location, whether it’s your home, office, or parking lot. We factor our pick-up fees into our purchase price. 

Drop-offs: If your car is running, you can drive it directly to our location, saving you the hassle of coordinating with a driver—and you’ll earn some extra cash in the process!

Signing Over the Title and Completing the Transaction

Paperwork: When the tow truck arrives (or when you drive it to our facility), you’ll need to provide the title of the vehicle to complete the sale. We will ask you to sign over the title and sometimes other forms of proof of ownership.

Payment: Auto & Scrap Recyclers typically provides payment on the spot, either in cash or by check.

Vehicle Recycling and Salvaging

Once Auto & Scrap has taken possession of your vehicle, we will typically recycle or dismantle it to extract any valuable parts and materials. This process includes:

  • Recycling metals like steel, aluminum, and copper, which can be melted down and reused in manufacturing.
  • Environmental Disposal: Auto & Scrap will also ensure that any hazardous materials, such as fluids (oil, coolant, etc.), are disposed of properly, adhering to local environmental regulations.

DMV and Legal Considerations

After the car is sold, Auto & Scrap Recyclers will notify the DMV or relevant authorities that the vehicle has been scrapped.

If you live in an area that requires a Notice of Transfer and Release of Liability form, you may need to submit it to ensure that the car is officially off your record.
